Sexy new picture.

Posted by Zerok Apr. 21, 2009 @ 11:01 PM EDT

<-------------------- Oh yeah, hot stuff, watch out.

This was taken while Geocaching, a hobby I recommend and publicly endorse. My buddy and I hiked about 15k through the lovely Lake Echo / Salmon River trail system. It was utterly serene and a great, if tiring, experience.

In other news, Fyndir uploaded his narration of my Writing Contest story. Have a listen, and leave him a GODDAMNED REVIEW he NEEDS THEM.

Part 2: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen /230982
Part 3: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen /231067

I want to make a flash audiobook out of it; I thought it was an original idea until this incredible flash was released today. Now I don't think I can bring myself to release anything less than that quality... so any artists that want to volunteer are more than welcome to PM me.

Speaking of Flash, I have a bunch of mini projects on the go, including an original short and possibly a medals game! But they're all in the early stages of development, so stay tuned.

I'll finish this off with another shot from the hike, looking south over West Lake.

Ah, a sexy new picture indeed!

This is the first I've heard of "geocaching". Sounds pretty interesting and fun. Unfortunately, every geochache in my area has been found :(

I'll be sure to check out Fyndir's submissions and leave a review. That is, if I can stay awake through them lol.

Apr. 21, 2009 | 11:34 PM Zerok responds:

Doesn't matter if they've been found: the point is to find them over and over again!

And yeah, the recordings are around 25 minutes all told. It was a long "short" story (4000+ words).

Nice view.

Apr. 21, 2009 | 11:55 PM Zerok responds:

Yes sir, t'was. And PERFECTLY quiet. No buzzing wildlife, no wind... it was kind creepy in a way but more awesome than creepy.

Apr. 21, 2009 | 11:44 PM ninjakoopa-33 says:

Oh that's it? Then I should try this out!

I'll try to listen to them soon, but not at the moment. I'm sleepy enough as is.

Apr. 21, 2009 | 11:56 PM Zerok responds:

Yeah, absolutely. Check out that thread I linked to ("publicly endorse") if you'd like. I've got more picture of scenery and geocaching maps and tips and discussion and what have you.

My sandwich consuming one was just too outdated. Though I had half a Subway sandwich in my pack at the time of the photo. I should've chowed down.

Goonie wasn't talking about the lake.

Apr. 22, 2009 | 9:36 AM Zerok responds:

Oh, over the lookout spot then? Yeah, that's really pretty too. :3

Apr. 22, 2009 | 8:08 PM Zerok responds:

Um, on some rocks? Why do you ask?

Apr. 22, 2009 | 10:13 PM Blackford says:

Nice. I read your thread about it, I've actually done it a couple of times with a friend of mine. It's pretty fun, but we tried to find a couple in a public area and 1 was gone and the other one had all the stuff stolen out of it =(

Apr. 23, 2009 | 12:58 PM Zerok responds:

Yeahhh that'll happen to public ones. Try some woodsy ones next time!

Apr. 24, 2009 | 1:37 AM Sovalkov says:

They'll be even better once the seasonal trees get their leaves back.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 2:31 PM Zerok responds:

Not as sexy as your TD game! :o

I didn't realize it was in the making for so long, you must be anxious to release it, heh.

I found my first Geocache today. The first three we attempted to find were lost, or more probably, stolen. Fourth time's the charm... at least, I think that's how the saying goes.

I hadn't even heard of Gerocaching before you mentioned it, and I'm a huge nerd. So thanks for that, it was a great time.

Out of interest, do you use a purpose built GPS? Or one on your mobile phone? I use the Trimble GeocacheNavigator app (on my N95), and it's alright, but it can be a little off, even under perfect conditions. Any protips?

Apr. 28, 2009 | 9:54 PM Zerok responds:

Eh, we use an actual handheld device. The Garmin eTrex: cheapest one you can buy and it does the job. My friend got a Magellan 500 or something... that one's more advanced with map capability and shit. I've never really used a phone app GPS thing before so I can't comment... but I'd still suggest a real handheld. You can probably find used GPSs on your local online classifieds for pretty cheap.

You'll definitely want a handheld if you start doing this more often, and ESPECIALLY if you start hiding your own.

I got stung by nettles on our outing :(

1 out of 4 caches is a little disappointing, though the one we did find was packed full of stuff!

Apr. 28, 2009 | 9:56 PM Zerok responds:

Booo. We helped out buddy put out a series of 6 today (last one ended in a locked box that needed clues from previous caches to open), my feet got wrecked in swampy doom... :(

It does suck to have those DNFs... we couldn't find 2 out of the 8-10 or so we hunted for today. Always a good idea to check the logs before you hit one, just to make sure the last 5 logs weren't all DNFs.
