if you wanted people to stop posting, then why didnt you lock it? ffs man, does it REALLY matter to you if people are having a discussion in a old thread? esp if the discussion is NOT old?
To you and the poster below: it was older than 7 days, so it cannot be locked (by a mod). Also, there's no problem with *discussion* but a thread like that just generates A) post-count +1, B) a user gallery type thread. Not to mention the fact that since it was 3 years old that the OP would likely not be getting to any the requests.
If you wanted people to stop posting in the "I'll make you EMO" thread topic why didn't you just close it?

Deleted the posts? Users can't delete posts. I think you just need to lurk a bit more. The warning was more than fair.

I deleted several posts in that thread without banning. I gave 'em the benefit of the doubt. I banned users if they failed 3 times to realize why the posts were being removed or if they directly quoted me in their post, thereby removing any doubt that they had seen my message.
Hey Zerok - a quick question here. I made a thread in Clubs and crews a while back. It was about a music group called the black mages (they do FF music) and i posted a few links to their songs. Then the next day i went to see if anyone had posted there, and it was non-existent. The whole topic had just dissapeared. So i thought maybe some Mod has deleted it.
But what i dont understand is why it got deleted and not just locked. The mod that deleted it could have atleast sent me a message as to why he had taken that decision. I don´t think i broke any rules or anything in the first post - cos i didn´t get banned or anything.
So yeah, to sum it up - if a thread gets deleted the mod in question should inform the topic starter why. That way we now what not to do the next time round.

But yeah, I know what you mean. When I delete stuff, it's usually for a fairly obvious reason. Otherwise, lock message. But we're all bound to slip up from time to time, or a user may not catch on, ...whatever. I'm a strong supporter of the idea of an auto-PM upon deletion of a thread (like when your reviews are removed, M-Bot mails you) with reasons for the deletion. Sort of like a personal lock message.
The idea has been spoken about but I have no idea where it stands in the development process. We'll just have to wait and see.

I came back to NG after the redesign and soon found out that there had been a username "lockdown". Does this mean there is no way in hell I can alter my name without creating an entirely new account?
You could PM Tom or Wade but they're probably very busy with redesign stuff now. That's the only way I know of changing it.
I can actually PM them? Wow. I always thought people were joking when they suggested a private message to Tom or Wade. Alright, then - I'll wait out the redesign for a little bit longer then I'll try my luck.
