wow, you have been like a super mod lately, at least every time im on. so, just curious, why aren't favorite threads usually locked? not much discussion?

Favourite threads ARE usually locked...
oops, wrong account. Anyway one more question, if your thread is locked, does it mean you will be banned?
Not always.
Hey um how did you first find newgrounds hijackreaper told me at school
It was at school in Grade 8, everyone was playing UFA.
Hypothetically, say if you had an alt. I don't have one but I've been wondering this for a while. Say you had an alt and it got banned for some reason. Would it be against the rules to post with your main account?
Technically, yes.
Hey Zerok are going to lock the NG photo wall thread please don't.
-Mike
Uh... well I don't know what you're on about, so sure.
I was banned for a day. It didn't say who. Evark, Alastor, HAQnSPITT were teh only ones online at the time though. It said I was banned for posting in a spam topic. It was called "newgrounds.com BBS users try this:" and in the post was "be funny" I said "no you should try to be funny" I was banned for a day.
Spectacular.
Wait it wasn't this account it was my other one (don't worry I didn't use any of them during the ban period.)
Question - why do mods leave out their name on a ban message? (except you, when you've banned me you always put your name on the ban message)
I don't know, it's a preference thing.
Lots of mods sign their bans, unless it's a Destroy sweep ban. You have to manually go back and sign all bans in that case.
Do mods do Soft Locks often, like BBR did in the "you should have grabbed his cock" spammed thread.
Or did BBR just want to get his ban quota up by not locking it?
Soft locks only occur when a thread needs to be locked but its outside its 30-day lock limit. Sometimes deleting a few posts can send the topic back into the abyss where it belongs, but at times a spammy thread will catch alight due to a bump and it starts to get posted in out of control. Soft locks are the best option in this case.
They don't happen super-often, and no, BBR isn't the only one who does it.
I've been asking this question to other mods. But they don't seem to get it. Maybe you can help. Ok. You know those NEWS topics (by TFulp) that are as stickies on the BBS sections? Yeah. So let's say that I have posted something of questionable legality. But it was a long time ago. Let's say that you find that post and annihilate it. Do I get banned?
Also lol, you deleted 50 of my posts. Lmao!
Depends on the breach of "legality."
I don't see why your case would be different for an admin news topic than it would be for ANY topic in question, but lets roll with that anyway.
Breach of rules, going from 'not so bad' to 'really bad'.
~~Minor bannable offense~~
If you posted "lol" in one of those topics 3 years ago and I banned you for it, and you PM'd me saying "hey I said that 3 years ago" I'd probably let you off because in I can give you the benefit of the doubt that you weren't a good as poster back then, AND that I didn't start enforcing the "lol" = ban rule until X months ago.
If the post was within... say, X weeks (I'd base the X on your ban history/posting habits/general attitude/civility of PM; better in all cases means smaller X) AND I can see that you haven't already been banned for it, I'll likely keep the ban.
~~~Medium bannable offense~~~
If you posted "ASDFWETWKT VMRFVK# COCK SAFKSF LWELW," same as above, except my leniency would be appended proportionally. Enough mods scan over news posts anyway so pure spam is likely to be picked up within the life of the stickie, right?
~~~Big Bannable offense~~~
Say you posted a very NSFW picture, and it somehow avoided being caught. I think the ban would stick in most cases, unless it was a VERY long time ago, and you can convince me that you've changed dramatically since the incident. Even then, it may just result in a shortened ban.
~~~Serious offense~~~
Child porn, threats on the President's life, all that FBI-worth stuff... if, somehow, that went unnoticed I don't think you'd be in any place to argue a ban or further punishment, regardless of the time passed since it happened. Murderers who are caught decades later still get tried for the crimes as if it happened the day before, savvy?
Basically, it depends on two factors: how long ago exactly, and how dire the offense. Also, if you've already been banned for it, PM to politely dispute. I'd say this holds regardless of the thread it was posted in.
Hope this helps.
PISS COCK PUKE BITCH LIPS
also hi love
Hey Z, thanks for the previous reply on my "wat if i psotd sumptin ileguhl lulz" question. But guess what? I have another question (no it's not about bestiality).
Let's say that I have a couple of mein friends/family members who go to newgrounds on my PC. And that they also post with their accounts. But the IP stays the same. So I get banned, and then my friend starts posting with HIS account. After that some random mod (you, since this is an "if" story) bans the other alt and says I used an alt. Would you unban the person if he was telling the truth even though there's no 100% it was all true. Or would you just forget the facts and trust your opinion?
By the way, you don't have a FUCKING BANNER DUDE!
That sort of thing has happened before.
In the face of no proof, things like the user(s) in question's civility when making the PM, their general ban and posting history, and their actual posting style come in to play when deciding to give them the benefit of the doubt or keep the ban.
If you have more than one NG account on a single IP it is the multiple users' responsibility to acknowledge the fact that the system works on IP matching and that if one person gets banned the others are at risk of being tagged too. Motivation for y'all to police each other, if you care about staying unbanned.
okay heres my question:
why the fuck is their a rule against excessive use of caps?
im one of the few people who (albeit out of pure bordeom) read all the stuff on ng like rules etc before joining. i read every single page of every single thing. including toms biography. yes i was that bored.
but i still dont get why the fuck theres that rule... its so... pointless and random...
and uhhh lets seee what else...
dammit i had another question...
oh well
did you know i decided yesterday was christmas? santa even visited my blog!!
...than again EVERYONE visits my blog (hint hint...)
Well go look up the word "excessive" and that'll give you a hint.
All-caps can easily be spam if it's not being obviously used to get a point across. It looks sloppy and without guidelines you'd have a bunch of jokers who would do all the time just because they could.
So how did you bacome a mod Zerok?
People voted on me, I got the majority vote, voila.
im a walking dictionary i dont need to look up excessive
there is no point to that rule because it threatens innocent people who are simply capsing not to spam but to get a point across
plenty of mods could would do something shitty and ban them for that since the rule is NOT elaborated upon
id make a better arguement but im fucking tired
now go post on my blog before i knee you...
If you had have just gone and looked up "excessive" like I asked then you wouldn't be posting this, because you'd be understanding what "excessive" means. The subjectivity of "excessive" is more of an issue, but mods are generally apt enough to see when it is spamming and when CAPSing is for emphasis.
Thanks Z, I have another question (no, it's not about guro). So if a dude gets banned for some reason, can the message that got himself banned not get deleted? If yes, then what are the circumstances for this event to occure? Also, how's your pet doing?
Uhh.
If you're banned for sentence X, then sentence X can be deleted, unless it's a case for debate in the mod forum in which case it is usually preserved.
Thanks Zorek. I have another question. Is stalking a bannable offense? If yes, how long would the ban be? Or is it just good fun?
By stalking, I mean quoting all of someone's posts and denying anything the person had said. Also, how are your fish doing?
You're not allowed to follow people from thread to thread flaming them. I believe that's in the main rule page. Ban length would depend on the nature of the offense.
Thanks, Zarok. But I have another question. Is it allowed to use alts when you ain't banned? Or it would break the 4-replies-per-30-minutes rule?
The only acceptable use of an alt is to get around the 4posts/30min thing IF you're engaged in a fast conversation OR a quick response is somehow necessary for the thread's integrity. Technically.
Hey Zerok, you realise that your massive tl;dr post in your other blog post more or less details why the BBS is now terrible perfectly?
Zerok
Ha, well, it's only terrible if we allow the stuff in there to go nuts.
;)
